I recently spoke at a networking event about having your 5 a day when it comes to social media…and I was not talking about vegetables!

So what was I talking about? Well, my theory is that there are 25 core social media activities that 24/7 Digital Nomad does for our social media marketing clients each day. So, here is your challenge…

There are 25 suggestions here so aim to do 5 of these (one from each section) each day. Do this everyday and by the end of the working week you’ll have done all 25. You will soon be doing all these on a regular basis and become a social media marketeer!

Section 1 – TWITTER

1. Follow at least one person. (use the who do you know section or search facility on Twitter, or use followerwonk.com to do a twitter bio search for relevant people).

2. Add someone to a list. (Have you put your following people into lists so that you can manage them properly?)

3. Tweet an article from your archive (or if you do not have a blog then I suggest you tweet a relevant article for your industry).

4. RT at least 5 tweets. You should add a comment using the > symbol, and all RT should be scheduled over a period of time so that you are not flooding your timeline with RT’s.

5. Tweet a visual. This could be a link to a video or a photo, but visuals are very effective.

Section 2 – FACEBOOK BUSINESS PAGE

1. “Switch” to your company Facebook business page and “like” at least one other business. Tip: if you like other businesses that are in a similar field as you then you have a bigger chance of gaining more fans as you will appear in the “also likes this page” section.

2. Whilst logged in as your business, click “home”. You will then see the news feed of other businesses that your company likes. This is the time to engage! Like, comment and share others content.

3. Share an image on your page! Again this could be a photo, a picture or a video. Facebook timeline is designed for visuals, and it is a proven fact that more people interact with a visual than then do with written content.

4. Tag either someone or a business in a post using the @ symbol. This way you will get a mention on a page or a profile.

5. Once a week (at least), use the question / poll facility on Facebook. This is a fabulous tool and of you add poll options it makes it easy for your audience to get involved.

Bonus: If relevant check whose birthday it is and send them a birthday wish. Try and send a visual birthday wish rather than just writing “happy birthday”. This way your message will stand out.

Section 3 – LINKEDIN

1. Monday’s always add a poll or question to your personal LinkedIn profile. Tweet this at the same time.

2. Add at least 2 people from the “people you may know” section.

3. Share you company profile with your network at least once a week (we share ours every Friday).

4. Ask for a recommendation for a product or service on your company LinkedIn profile.

5. Be active in a group discussion, and dedicate at least 10 minutes to this activity.

Section 4 – BLOG (Better Listings On Google).

1. Write a blog article (min of twice a week). If you don’t have a blog then I recommend using Facebook notes facility or a free WordPress site. (See my other article for blogging tips here).

2. Upload your article to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn Company, LinkedIn profile, Google Plus.

3. Has your article been indexed by Google yet? If so then feel free to upload to the main article directories ezine, goarticle, articlebase and 4Networking (if you are a member then the article listing for 4N is free and the search rankings are excellent).

4. Find relevant blog articles for your industry and comment on the blog, ensuring that you leave your URL of your most recent article in the option available.

5. Ask people to join you on the dance floor! Blogging is a little bit like being at a wedding. If you start dancing then others will join in! So ask some key people to comment on your blog, whether that be on Facebook, LinkedIn or the blog itself. Others will soon join in the discussion.

Section 5 – Other Social Media Sites

1. Pinterest – pin at least one new pin a day and tweet/ Facebook the picture / video. Pinterest is now the third biggest networking site (bigger than LinkedIn), so if you have the opportunity to build boards then make the most of it. Check out my Pinterest board here. 2. Google Plus. I am not a big fan of Google Plus but there is no doubt that this social network is great for Google rankings, so it’s important to comment, like and share as part of your social media strategy.

3. Add a book review to LinkedIn using the Amazon application. I also use the social networking site called Goodreads, which links to your Facebook and Twitter accounts (there is a good iPhone / iPad add for Goodreads).

4. Google Alerts – review your google alerts each week. This is part of our Friday strategy for all our clients.

5. Do a deep clean of your Twitter account. We use manageflitter.com to sort through those that we are following that have not tweeted in the last 3 months etc. We also run a management KPI report on 1st of every month to analyse what is working and what is not. We then do more of what is working and less of what is not!

The above is just a snippet of activities that is needed to have an online social media success. In addition to this you should be posting to your networks at least 3 times a day, and we recommend posting your education posts about your business at optimized times (tools such as crowdbooster or tweriod will tell you when your network is online the most).
